In summer, we offer the Seminar “Didactics: Teaching German as a Foreign Language” within the framework of Aachener Sprachsommer of FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences.

The four-week programme takes place in July and August and addresses German teachers with teaching experience as well as students of German studies who are about to finish their studies and plan to work as German teachers in the future. Participants should have German language skills at level C1ABOUT PROFICIENCY LEVELS:

or higher.

You will get the chance to acquire new knowledge about modern didactics and teaching methods, brush up your language skills and experience German culture, history, and environment from different perspectives – all at the same time. All of these aspects will not only be addressed in the daily lessons, but also in excursions, expert lectures about teaching materials, examination formats, etc. as well as in further events related to the main topics of the workshop.

As a German language teacher participating in this programme, you will gain a multifaceted impression of German language and culture. Additionally, you will be equipped with the latest professional techniques for conveying this knowledge to your future students.

Upon regular and successful completition of the course,  you will receive 5 ECTS ECTS-System:

-points and a certificate.

You can either attend the course in person in Aachen or online: If you participate online, you will be connected to the lessons live via camera and can actively participate while completing all class activities from your current location.

Additional information for German teachers working in Germany:
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) recognises the workshop for German teachers as „anderes DaF/DaZ-Zertifikat“ (other DaF/DaZ certificate) according to the matrix of acceptance criteria for teachers of integration courses. Teaching integration courses requires a specific admission issued by the BAMF. Depending on your additional qualifications, the certificate you will be awarded upon successful participation in our workshop for German teachers can suffice to be issued the BAMF teaching admission. More information on admission conditions as well as the BAMF contact details can be found here.

Students can book a room or a bed in student accommodation for the duration of the course.
In addition to the course, a varied cultural and leisure programme is offered for all participants. Furthermore, our European excursions to Amsterdam and Paris are planned for two weekends: These interesting tours are optional and incur additional fees which can be paid upon arrival in Aachen. The realisation depends on the current Corona situation and possible travel restrictions.

For more information about the accommodation options as well as the leisure programme, please click here:

The following room types are offered:

  • Single room: €520.00
  • Bed in twin room: € 320.00

All rooms are located close to Aachen’s city centre. Bathrooms and kitchens are shared between several residents. You can move into your room one day before the start of your course and stay until the day after your course ends.
You can book your accommodation at the same time as you book your course (see booking form). The number of available rooms is limited. Early booking is therefore recommended.

Even in your free time, you can expand your language skills – and learn a lot about Aachen and its surroundings. Several days a week you have the opportunity to participate in various free activities as part of the cultural and leisure programme. These include, for example: the welcome meeting, a walk to the border triangle of Germany-Belgium-Netherlands, a games evening, movie nights with films in German and visits to public events in Aachen.

These activities are generally free of charge (if necessary, costs for bus rides within Aachen and costs for catering during the events may be incurred).
